Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship/nominate

From Battlestar Wiki, the free, open content Battlestar Galactica encyclopedia and episode guide

Introduction

In order to nominate yourself or another editor for adminship, you must first create an RfA subpage for the nominee, which will be done automatically when you follow the instructions in the appropriate section below.

Once this RfA subpage has been created, the nominator must explain on the RfA subpage why this nominee would make a good administrator, and the nominee must accept the nomination on the RfA subpage before it can be transcluded to the main RfA page. This prevents editors from voting against candidates simply because they have not accepted the nomination or answered the questions. It also prevents both nominees and nominators from being embarrassed when a nomination is declined.

Finally, once the nomination has been accepted and the questions answered, any editor (including the nominator or the nominee) can link it to the RfA page. This is done by simply by following the "edit this page" link in the appropriate section below and adding the template provided at the bottom of this page (with the nominee's name substituted for USERNAME) to the RfA page. Ideally, the nominee should do this, as the nominee will be the first to know when the questions have been answered to his or her satisfaction.

To nominate yourself

  1. Using the nomination box on the main RFA page, replace "Username" with your username.
  2. Click "New Nomination".
  3. Edit the page, and in the space provided, note that you accept the nomination. Also answer the standard questions for all candidates. Save the page.
  4. Change the time on the RfA page to indicate the current time, as well as an ending time of a week after the creation (since you inherently accept your own nomination).
  5. Once done, go to Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship and add the following
    {{Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship/USERNAME}} ----

To nominate someone else

  1. Using the nomination box on the main RFA page, replace "Username" with name of the nominee.
  2. Click "New Nomination".
  3. Edit the page, giving a reason why you believe the user would be a competent administrator.
  4. Notify the user you are nominating them on his/her user talk page, and include a link to the page you just created (Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship/USERNAME).
Do not add the RfA to Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship yet.

What to do if you are nominated by someone else:

  1. Go to your RfA subpage, and either accept or decline your nomination. If you decline, be sure to inform your nominator.
  2. After you accept your nomination, make sure to answer the standard questions for all candidates. Answering fully and honestly will give your fellow users the chance to vote accordingly.
  3. Change the time on your RfA page to indicate the current time, and set the deadline to a week after your acceptance time.
  4. Add the following text above the most recent nomination on the RFA page (replacing USERNAME with your name):
    {{Battlestar Wiki:Requests for adminship/USERNAME}} ----
