Battlestar Wiki:Think Tank/Things you just don't do, not even in war

From Battlestar Wiki, the free, open content Battlestar Galactica encyclopedia and episode guide
This is an archive successful proposal that was vetted through the Think Tank, a place where ideas of all kinds are proposed and worked upon by the community prior to implementation. Please do not modify this proposal.

It is possible to follow the exact letter of all policies. It is possible to be always be correct about everything you post. It is also possible to do all of the above... while being completely wrong. Sometimes it's better to be wrong graciously than be right (and be a jerk). So, please there are some things that you just don't do (not even in war).

Import (and modify) "Don't be dense" from Wikimedia

Don't be dense: Best way to summarize this is blindly applying policies without using common sense and ignoring generally and obviously accepted content and evidence while demanding "proof."

I propose that we import and modify the "community policy" located here:
Don't be dense

Import (and modify) "Don't be a dick" from Wikimedia

Don't be a dick: It is possible to follow policies correctly and to the letter, while being rude, inconsiderate, and wrong.

I propose that we import and modify the "community policy" located here:
Don't be a dick

Import (and modify) "Don't disrupt Wikipedia to make a point" from Wikimedia

"Don't disrupt Wikipedia to make a point": Related to the "Don't be a dick" policy, "being right" in a way that is disrupting Wikipedia is wrong.

I propose that we import and modify the "community policy" located here:
Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Don't disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point

These policies might serve as a reminder to those who would mistreat others within the boundaries of other policies that there is a standard of behavior that they are held accountable to. It's not a terribly long page, but I'd want to make sure everyone got a chance to look it over and change anything that they felt needed "localising" to our particular wiki-community. Presumably some industrious soul would swipe and/or rewrite in their own words the core of the above policies, and then the community would iron out any issues before putting them into effect. These policies need not really have any "teeth" behind it for violators. I'd hope that their mere existance might help the community self-police with peer pressure to make sure that people who are misbehaving realize that their behavior is not appreciated, and won't be tolerated. Import would presumably begin as soon as this passed, with revisions and "confirmation" of the policies to follow shortly thereafter. These policies would likely reside in the "Battlestar Wiki" namespace as an "official policy" once adopted.
