Battle of New Caprica Battle of NCD2539 Unknown

Battlestar Galactica unsuccessfully attempts to rid themselves of the Cylons once and for all through the use of a biological weapon tactic.

The battlestar jumps ahead in a location in space known as NCD2539, which is used by the Cylons as a supply route. The battlestar leaves its civilian Fleet behind for safety and tactical issues.

Having recently taken several infected Cylon agent prisoners from a sick basestar, Admiral William Adama intentionally Jumps to this region of space to lure Cylon forces, including a Resurrection Ship, into the area. The Colonials intend to kill their Cylon agent prisoners, whose consciousnesses would download and infect the Cylon populace with a human virus with a bioelectric pathogen that would eventually and effectively annihilate the Cylon race.

Shortly after the Colonials arrive, two scouting Raiders jump into the vicinity ahead of the Cylon fleet. Upon noticing Galactica, the enemy fighters retreat and soon bring their fleet in tow, consisting of five basestars and a Resurrection Ship.

Galactica launches multiple Vipers and Raptors, with the latter firing an open salvo of missiles into the Cylon Raider swarm as part of their baiting plan.

With the Cylons and the Resurrection Ship now close by, Admiral Adama orders the execution of their Cylon prisoners. However, sabotage aboard Galactica has vented the compartment where the prisoners are located, asphyxiating them before the Colonials entered NCD2539 space and long before the Resurrection Ship was in range for their personalities to download.

With the prime objective no longer possible, Admiral Adama aborts the mission and returns his battlestar to the bulk of his Fleet.

Notes[edit]

Raptors firing missiles.
  • In this engagement, Raptors are shown loaded to the teeth with weapons systems. In the past (Miniseries, The Hand of God), Raptors have rarely been depicted in actual combat, preferring instead to hang back while coordinating battlefield logistics. They have been shown armed in a few prior episodes (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II, Fragged), but this is by far their most prominent combat role to date. The Raptors are using the external missile pods and cannons introduced in "Exodus, Part I & II" and engage in the same maneuver used to launch the decoy drones during the Battle of New Caprica.
