Maya is a civilian within the Fleet who was selected from a list made for Dr. Cottle by Tory Foster listing possible adoptive parents for Hera, the Human/Cylon hybrid-child of Helo and Sharon Valerii after President Roslin decides that the child should not be raised by her mother. Roslin orders Dr. Cottle to stage the hybrid baby's death to disguise the adoption from her birth parents.
Maya is told that the child was from a female Pegasus officer who gave the child up for political and religious reasons (Downloaded). Maya names the child, Isis.
A little more than a year later, Maya assists Roslin in running the New Caprica City Elementary School. (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II)
Maya died while trying to escape Cylon-occupied New Caprica (Exodus, Part II). Her adopted child, Hera/Isis, was found alive next to Maya's body by Gaius Baltar and Caprica-Six.
