McKintosh is a gambler whom Starbuck encounters following the death of Captain Wyler.

During a pyramid game, McKintosh learns about Starbuck's past relating to Umbra, and argues with Starbuck about the official story relating to the defense net. McKintosh claims to have been there the night of the attack as he ferried agro cargo from the factory at Umbra, and thus was able to obtain data that confirmed that the net was deactivated to allow the Cylons to attack.

Claiming that no one believed him, McKintosh wagers a data chip worn around his neck to Starbuck as a taunt, believing the newly minted Warrior didn't have a winning hand. Starbuck's full pyramid secured McKintosh's data chip with the alleged data, only for Starbuck to later discover that the chip was unreadable (Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck 1).
