Vella

Vella was a resident of Equellus. She was an intelligent woman who abhorred violence and weapons, a logical reaction since her husband -- a marooned Warrior named Martin -- was killed in an act of violence. Vella and her brother Bootes happened across Martin's Viper, which had been damaged. She nursed Martin back to health and the two fell in love, and from that love sprung their son, Puppis. Before Puppis turned a yahren old, she lost her husband to Red-Eye, who has since terrorized both her and her son for "tribute".

When Apollo landed upon the planet, she hid him from Red-Eye, who was investigating an odd noise. She later nourished and gave him appropriate clothing to mix in with town folk of the planet.

She was the one who told him of Martin and the story behind his death, much to the pain the memories gave. After Apollo had destroyed Red-Eye, Vella showed him the location of Martin's viper for him to appropriate the remaining fuel, and left Vella in peace. (The Lost Warrior)
