Battlestar Wiki talk:Think Tank/Wikipedia Policies

Discussion page of Battlestar Wiki:Think Tank/Wikipedia Policies

There is an issue that User:Scotchfairy brought to our attention at Battlestar Wiki talk:Welcome, newcomers. Basically, what Lee said was that someone shouldn't have to jump to another place (well, Wikipedia) and find out information on how to use the wiki, which is potentially confusing to new users who've never used wiki software before. So, instead of linking to Wikipedia for policies we use, we should just probably import them here. Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:21, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

I agree linking off-site is bad, but really need to get BW:POL comfirmed at the same time then so it can all be in confirmed. --Shane (T - C - E) 20:36, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
Do you mind if I change the writing on the page to read that the list of policies will be imported upon confirmation of this proposal, instead of merely linking to them outside of BW? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:01, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
Yeah. Go for it. Open editing season always ;-) Maybe we should list all the polices that are in proposed status as well. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:14, 12 September 2006 (CDT)
I'd rather that this wiki stand on its own as much as possible. If it's allowed, yes, I'd import their content for our own and modify it accordingly rather than linking out. --Spencerian 07:30, 13 September 2006 (CDT)
Import and modify. --FrankieG 07:39, 13 September 2006 (CDT)

What do we actually need these policies for, isnt it just common sense? We already have policies and rules regarding behavoir --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 10:03, 16 September 2006 (CDT)

I am afraid that we can't count on common sense anymore. Also, I think that we have been "using" these policies, we just been pointing to Wikipedia. I wish the world was such that we didn't have do these kind of things. It's easy to paint oneself in the corner with "rules." The reason to "rush" it along is to be ready for Season 3 "crush". Edit: Personally, I am worried about an overwhelming increase in popularity. Having the "tools" in place, I think will help. --FrankieG 10:15, 16 September 2006 (CDT)

"Help" Pages[edit]

No idea if we should just create another tank, but from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents we should make a list of items to import. --Shane (T - C - E) 05:17, 13 September 2006 (CDT)

Vote Reminder[edit]

Just sticking a reminder out for a voting. Plan is to attempt to have this done before Oct. 6.--FrankieG 06:49, 22 September 2006 (CDT)

How to proceed?[edit]

My plan is to add an import section to BW:POL to track the importation of these policy (liking doing the podcasts)? Just to keep for duplicate work happening. However, very open to other suggestions. --FrankieG 14:13, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
